Portuguese luxury tableware company Vista Alegre secures 2016 Good Design Award and 11 Honours from the 2017 German Design Awards
Vista Alegre, a worldwide leader in fine porcelain and crystal tableware, giftware, and barware has been recognised with three design awards from two prestigious institutions.
The brand received a Good Design Award from the Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design for the Fénix Crystal Decanter, and two German Design Awards from the German Board of Design for its tableware collections Orquestra and Trace. The Vista Alegre collections Carrara, Gárgulas, Jazz, and Love Who You Want received a Special Mention from the German Board of Design. Additionally, Blue Ming, Plissé, Timeless, Midnight, and Swinging all received nominations.
A first for Vista Alegre, the Good Design Award is a coveted accolade amongst designers, and the Fénix Crystal Decanter was selected from among thousands of submissions from the world’s leading manufacturers and industrial and graphic design firms, representing the most important and influential corporations worldwide in the design industry from over 55 countries.
Now in its 66th year, Good Design is the oldest and one of the most distinguished design awards programs in the world. Founded in Chicago by former MoMA curator Edgar Kaufmann, Jr., along with such pioneers in modern design as Charles and Ray Eames and Russel Wright, Good Design honors the annual achievements of the best industrial and graphic designers, and world manufacturers for their pursuit of extraordinary design excellence.
For the second year in a row, Vista Alegre has been recognised for outstanding quality and design by the German Design Awards, having won an award in 2016 for Printemps by Carsten Gollnick. This international award is recognised as one of the highest honors among the design community, and receiving this acknowledgement further cements Vista Alegre’s reputation for creating distinctive products with superior craftsmanship.
The German Design Council was founded in 1953 by decree of the German Federal Parliament, and today is one of the world's leading centers of expertise on design. The German Design Council repeatedly champions good design by selecting candidates based on quality, craftsmanship, and innovation. With product entries from thousands of manufacturers, designers and architects from across the globe, the competition focuses on various categories, including Home and Decoration, Kitchen and Household, and Lighting.
“We are extremely proud to be honored by the Chicago Athenaeum and the German Board of Design, two internationally renowned design organizations,” said Daniel Da Silva, President of Vista Alegre USA. “Our team at Vista Alegre is dedicated to producing excellence in design, and receiving this recognition from the design world is a great privilege,” he said.
