Sur La Table Names New CEO Billy May is a fourth-generation retailer with more than two decades of experience

SEATTLE, Wash.-Sur La Table has appointed Billy May CEO to succeed Diane Neal, who retired earlier this year.

May, a fourth-generation merchant with more than two decades of retail, digital marketing, and e-commerce experience, will also join the board of directors.

“We would like to thank Diane for her leadership and many contributions to Sur La Table,” said Kevin Nickelberry, managing director at Investcorp, the investment group that has owned Sur La Table since 2011, and a member of its board. “We are excited to work with Billy going forward and believe his extensive experience across the digital landscape–marketing, e-commerce, and omnichannel–aligns well with Sur La Table’s strategic priorities.”

May was most recently senior vice president at apparel retailer Abercrombie and Fitch, where he was responsible for marketing, e-commerce, omnichannel and corporate expansion initiatives across all brands and geographies. Previously, he helped lead global digital and e-commerce at Adidas Group, and held various leadership roles at Sears Holdings and Lowe’s Companies, Investcorp said. He started his career as an executive trainee and buyer within the May Department Stores Company. In addition to his executive role, May also serves as vice chair and member of the board of directors of Shop.org, the digital division of the National Retail Federation.

"As a lifelong retailer who is passionate about brands, I am excited to steward this iconic company," May said. "Sur La Table has a history of guiding customers across their culinary journey and a heritage focused on developing unique, multi-faceted experiences. I look forward to building upon that foundation and working with the team in what promises to be an exciting future for the organization.”
